Swapping My F12 TDF for A Ferrari F40!? 23 Jun 2021
I was honoured to be invited to drive the F40 by Ferrari Seven Oaks, they provided ‘The Big 5’ Ferrari Collection and it was time to take the F40 for a spin.
The heavy clutch and notched gearbox provides a classic feel to the F40. I thought I’d take it around town first for a different super car environment.
It’s a head turner for sure, it handles well around the village and feeling the turbo as we exit is just exactly what you expect. The throttle has a light feel to it, and picks up immediately.
It’s worth mentioning that it’s left-hand drive, but it actually enables being able to squeeze every inch of space out of the road. There’s no power steering, and yet it’s extremely light. The classic go-kart feel makes for endless smiles on the open road.
The boost is truly where the magic happens though. It’s chomping at the bit to explode down the country roads, but taking to corners, I suspect we could end up in the undergrowth. Every time you shift gear, and get into the boost band, it’s sheer theatre. It makes it feel like you’re on the racetrack, even when you’re adhering to the national speed limit!
The driving experience is just timeless, it feels phenomenal in 2021, so must have been mind-blowing in 1986. A keen handler is sure to maximise the fun in the F40.
