Lotus Emira FIRST LOOK! £60k Sports Car That Looks Like A Supercar! 5 Jul 2021
Recently, I was joined by Russell Carr, Design Director of Lotus. He introduced us to the brand-new Lotus Emira, a complete Chimera of a car, which looks like a £200k supercar…but with a £60k price tag.
The proportions are fantastic, with a low-set cabin, prominent haunches and soft sculpture with crisp lines throughout. The front of the car is quite an aggressive nose, carving through air. Lotus’ commitment to both form and function shines through here, with the radiator intake evacuating out of the ducts etched into the bonnet, cleverly creating extra downforce. The headlights are reminiscent of the Evija, but they are fully LED, making for the highest quality of lighting available. There’s an allure to this car that belies its modest price range.
Under the bonnet, Lotus have teamed up with AMG to offer a turbo-charged i4. It’s available to spec with a twin clutch box, or adapt for the traditional V6, all while maintaining 360hp.
What blew me away the most though, was the evolution of the interior in comparison to other Lotus models. On the outside, the Lotus provides drama and striking aesthetics. As a usable car, it offers every practicality as a daily use car, without sacrificing elegant finishes. The ergonomics of the cockpit are exactly as you’d wish, instinctive pedal placement, and a high console harking back to the vintage days of the Esprit. The on-step in terms of navigation, Car Play and usable storage is a world away from previous iterations. Thankfully though, the iconic Lotus steering wheel remains, as does the hydraulic steering rack. Renowned speaker manufacturer KEF even designed bespoke speakers for the Evija – music to any driver’s ears.
Overall, this bold, next generation of Lotus hypercar is sure to delight every level and type of driver, whether you’re taking to the track with it, or the open road. Stay tuned for our first drive.
