Delivering Lando Norris A GULF McLaren 720S! 8 Jul 2021
The Festival of Speed is back and we’re delivering the iconic, Gulf liveried 720S to Lando Norris in time for the event.
True to the name, it boasts 720 break horsepower and 720ps. The car is stunning in the iconic Gulf colourway. The magic of this partnership is that Gulf and McLaren have gone hand in hand since 1968, and even in my own childhood memories, the endurance racing from the 90s has this Gulf image imprinted on my mind. Interiorly, we have Gulf embroidered headrests, not spec’d, but an original partnership car. Right down to the ’12 o’clock’ steering wheel marker, even the intricate details are unmistakably Gulf.
Flying along the road to Goodwood, I reacquainted myself with one of the defining features of the 720s; effortless, massive torque. It feels light and seamless, in my mind, the feeling of weightlessness is one of the most important, if not the most important, element of a supercar.
As I arrived, we visited the now-iconic Gulf-liveried McLaren F1 car debuted at the Monaco Grand Prix. The rest of the cars on display we’re similarly symbolic, as I stopped by the McLaren P1, which I’d not seen in years! It’s a sculpture of a car which broke all the records upon its release, and I’m delighted to see McLaren continuing in this explosive style.
After my jaunt around the site, I was honoured to drop the keys off to the VIP area for Lando to pick up later in the weekend; one of the most unforgettable drives!
