Driving the straight pipe Ferrari F50 - The Most Incredible V12 Sound! 22 Jun 2021
This week, I had the privilege of driving the beautiful and ultra-rare Ferrari F50, named so to mark the 50 year anniversary of Ferrari. With only 349 made in the world, using a Ferrari F1 derived 4.7L manual V12 engine and boasting 520hp, this is truly one of the best drivers’ cars ever made!
Weighing in at less that 1400kg and showcasing a fancy straight through exhaust system, I already knew that the sound of this car would be ridiculous. But as you don’t often find yourself driving a car like this through your local town, I wanted to consider what it would feel like driving at civilian speeds.
The F50 is incredibly loud; like taking a 90s F1 car on the road. Feeling like two cars in one, as the roof can be taken off, driving it on a stunning summers’ day like I did was truly outstanding.
Importantly in a drivers’ car, it is exquisitely weighted and feels so organic to drive. Giving a real tactile feedback feel, the steering is surprisingly delicate and light, with zero power steering as one if its unique selling points.
What I loved the most about this car is the confidence it gives you whilst driving. It feels like pure thunder when there’s not a cloud in the sky.
