Lamborghini STO: The ULTIMATE Huracan First Drive Review! 25 Jul 2021
Here we go in the STO! Pulse Rally lent us this amazing Lamborghini STO for our review, and it did not disappoint.
The Huracan STO, the quintessential race car for the road. It won the Daytona 24 hours, three times. Starting with the colour, Verde Turbine, it’s a matte finish, making every angle pop. The key with these cars is weight saving, with the key, we can unlock the body components, revealing a clam shell design.
The car is already 47kg lighter than Performante, we have 20in lightweight magnesium wheels. The glass is 20% lighter than the Huracan Performante as well. The sandwich carbon fibre wing structure allows for 25% reduction in overall materials but maintaining the same rigidity as a conventional wing.
To the rear, the incredible angles at the back are structured for cooling and heat dissipation. The aerodynamics of the car has massive advantages over the Performante, it has 450kg of downforce; a 53% increase on the already powerful Performante. Its carbon spine improves cornering stability, helping to control the airflow sideways. Under the hood, we have a 631, naturally aspirated, V10 Lamborghini horsepower with gold tops on the engine covers.
Inside, the MMI shows you its telemetry programme for the track, logging all manner of racing data. Interior fabrics remain classic with a mix of carbon fibre and Alcantara, and aesthetically, the iconic paddle shifts remain.
To finish, it’s only fair that I show you how the STO handles on the open road. The steering is frighteningly direct, it’s a fixed steering ratio, it stays consistent throughout. The interoperability of the engine and gearbox is sublime, and you don’t have to take my word for it, it resonates in the throttle response. The shift speed is breathtakingly precise to boot, it’s almost predictive! Amazingly for a track car on the road, it does an excellent job of handling the compromised road surface.
To sum it up, the unbridled wildness of the Huracan STO makes for an exhilarating drive, and I can’t wait to get a hold of one to take on the track. Thanks again to the guys at Pulse Rally for their support!
