Epic First Drive In My NEW McLaren MSO Senna! 4 Sep 2021
800hp with 800kg downforce. 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds. 1300kg…but how does the McLaren MSO Senna make us feel? We’re back on the Highland roads for the ultimate sensory experience.
Before you step into the Senna, its road presence is unmatched. I’ve never seen heads turn like they have when I’ve been driving the Senna. It’s already putting you on high alert; sharp angles and 800kg of downforce comprise the perfect storm. A true thoroughbred race car.
The first, most noticeable element of the Senna is that the hollow tub and doors have a resonance that belies its light weight and reflects its power. One of the biggest acoustic factors in the Senna comes from the tight, supportive flashings on the engine, which reverberates through the carbon fibre tub and up through the seats to mildly shake the driver’s spine, giving a greater sense of oneness with the engine. By design, all of its components weave together for auditory and touch resonance.
The smell is overwhelmingly that of carbon fibre and fresh upholstery, guiding you to the softness of the seat fabric, which both clashes with and complements the harsh angles of the Senna’s appearance.
Most impactful of all, one of the strongest sensations in the car is definitely the braking, which allows maximum enjoyment of the downforce the Senna has to offer. The steering is frighteningly direct, feeling intuitively linked with your natural reflexes.
The name itself is no coincidence. Named after one of their most iconic F1 drivers, Ayrton Senna, McLaren worked closely with the Senna family and the Ayrton Senna Foundation to develop a car befitting a legend.
So, we’ve covered pretty much every sensory pleasure the Senna has to offer, except taste! This one was hard to define, but if speed had a flavour, it would be SENNA.
